Job Description

The primary goal of the role is to crack open and achieve targeted market penetration levels within the previously unreached SME and Retail market segment. You will come up with and spearhead the implementation of strategies through which the Revenue and profitability objectives of the company for this market segment will be achieved. Leading a sales force consisting of Direct and Indirect sales resources, digital partners and others, you will ensure a footprint of sales activity across the country in a sustainable and rapidly expanding manner. The role requires in depth knowledge and experience in planning, designing and executing sales strategies and tactics with demonstrable results within the Retail & SME market.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a comprehensive plan for nationwide sales, including strategies, tactics and the details of activities and resources to be applied to achieve the market breakthrough and penetration targets that have been set (Monitor and report - Monthly & Quarterly) 
  • Design, implement and develop a network of indirect sales channels on ground across the country, which is well structured, appropriately rewarded, and incentivized, well trained and equipped to deliver on the market penetration, revenue and profitability targets
  • Design and implement a national sales program; providing annual field sales action plans across channels for regions and territories (including Digital channels); projecting expected sales volume and profit for each channel by product lines (Monitor and report - Monthly & Quarterly)
  • Allocate revenue and volume targets for sales staff, indirect channels and channel partners. Plan, monitor, analyze and appraise individual staff and channel sales performance monthly to ensure targets are being met and surpassed
  • Prepare budgets and sales forecasts per quarter and drive monthly achievement; monitor and report on levels of success for sales volume and value, product mix and selling price, proposing remedial action and changes to tactics and plans as necessary to ensure achievement of sales target
  • Maintain and ensure high sales staff effectiveness by continuous formal and informal training; motivating employees within the team, counseling and disciplining as necessary for optimum performance
  • Monitor monthly, report on evolving market trends, demand and supply, economic indicators, and competitor activity; proposing amendments to sales strategies and tactics where necessary to achieve results
  • Ensure the CRM tool is being used effectively by all sales staff, ensuring that it delivers the strong competitive advantage for which it was acquired
Requirements
  • Proven 7 – 10 years’ experience as a sales executive, sales manager or sales and marketing director, meeting, or exceeding targets
  • BA/B.SC degree or equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience in national retail sales, developing client-focused, differentiated, and achievable solutions
  • Natural leader with ability to inspire performance with sales teams - experienced in coaching, mentoring, and supporting mixed with clear expectations and accountabilities
  • Strong commercial acumen and an entrepreneurial approach to business development
  • Proven track record of achieving sales growth and delivery of results in line with business plan
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
  • Well-developed negotiation, project and account management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards of performance
