Job Description

A Plant Consultant’s role is to provide strategic guidance, technical expertise, and project leadership to help our manufacturing plant optimise operations, achieve operational excellence, and drive sustainable growth in a competitive market environment. The successful candidate will also guide all aspects of the paper production process to ensure efficiency, quality, and safety.

Responsibilities

1. Operational Analysis:
Conduct thorough assessments of plant operations, including production processes, equipment utilisation, and workflow efficiency.
Identify areas for improvement and develop actionable recommendations to optimize productivity, reduce costs, and streamline operations.
2. Process Optimization:
Collaborate with plant manager and engineering teams to implement best practices and innovative solutions for process optimization.
Analyze production data and performance metrics to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
Recommend and oversee the implementation of process changes, technology upgrades, and automation solutions to enhance productivity and quality.
3. Quality Control:
Evaluate existing quality control procedures and systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
Develop and implement strategies to improve product quality, consistency, and reliability.
Guide quality management practices, testing methodologies, and corrective action processes.
 4. Maintenance Strategy:
Assess the effectiveness of maintenance programs and practices to minimize downtime and prolong equipment lifespan.
Develop maintenance strategies and schedules based on equipment reliability, lifecycle analysis, and industry best practices.
Oversee the maintenance of plant machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
Coordinate with the engineering department to plan and execute capital projects, upgrades, and expansions.
Advise on implementing preventive maintenance measures, spare parts management, and equipment condition monitoring systems.
5. Environmental and Regulatory Compliance:
Review environmental management practices and regulatory compliance measures to ensure adherence to local regulations and industry standards.
Recommend sustainable practices, waste reduction initiatives, and pollution control measures to minimize environmental impact.
Guide compliance audits, permit applications, and reporting requirements related to environmental and safety regulations.
6. Training and Development:
Conduct training sessions and workshops for plant personnel to enhance their skills, knowledge, and awareness of best practices.
Develop training materials, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and performance metrics to support continuous learning and improvement.
Mentor and coach plant staff to foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, and accountability.
7. Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage with the plant manager, stakeholders, and clients to understand their objectives, challenges, and expectations.
Communicate project updates, recommendations, and outcomes effectively to ensure alignment and collaboration.
8. Project Management:
Manage project budgets, resources, and timelines effectively to achieve business goals and objectives.
Monitor project performance, track key milestones, and proactively address any issues or risks.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical, chemical, industrial, or paper engineering. Advanced degrees or certifications in related fields are desired.
  • 7-10 years or more working experience preferably, in the paper manufacturing industry, with hands-on experience in plant operations, process optimization, and quality management is desired,
  • Proven track record of success in leadership roles with strategic workforce planning required.
  • Familiarity with the best practices in paper production, including pulping, refining, papermaking, and finishing processes.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, and reporting using Microsoft suite (excel) required.
  • Overall, as a Plant Consultant, you would be expected to leverage your industry expertise, technical knowledge, and consulting skills to help our manufacturing plant overcome challenges, improve performance, and achieve sustainable growth and success.
